Labour Councillors have recently heard that the 8 Specialist Support Centres across Suffolk are under threat of closure. The Centres are attached to mainstream schools to help children with special educational needs get the support the require. Without any warning these closures have been set in motion. The full County Council meeting never discussed these closures, the Cabinet never voted on these closures, Education Scrutiny never reviewed these closures and these closures are not mentioned in the upcoming budget cuts.
Labour Spokesperson for Education Sonia Barker said; ““Any withdrawal of services for children with statements, especially those with complex needs is a disgrace. The budget was discussed by Suffolk County Council Cabinet yesterday and no mention of this cut was made. It makes you wonder what other vulnerable groups will be targeted by this administration. Obviously we will be looking into what alternative provision is being offered for these pupils and their families.”
